Shanghai: Tempting nonstop flights from Almaty with Air Astana

Air Astana is expanding its route network and will launch a new service between Almaty and Shanghai on March 29, 2026. This will allow business and leisure travelers to travel conveniently between Kazakhstan and one of Asia’s largest metropolises. With this new route, Kazakhstan’s leading airline is further strengthening its presence in China. Beijing, Guangzhou, Urumqi, and Sanya are already among its established destinations.

Flights between Almaty and Shanghai operate three times a week. Departures from Almaty are at 7:10 PM on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, arriving in Shanghai at 4:25 AM the following day. The return flight departs Shanghai at 5:40 AM on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, landing in Almaty at 10:15 AM. A modern Airbus A321LR is used. The flight time is approximately 6 hours and 15 minutes to Shanghai and 7 hours and 35 minutes on the return journey to Almaty.

Shanghai is considered the financial and economic center of China.

This metropolis of millions combines modern architecture with a rich history and cultural diversity. Among its most famous sights are the Bund waterfront promenade with its views of the Pudong business district skyline, the Oriental Pearl Tower, and the traditional Yu Garden. Museums, temples, theaters, and vibrant shopping districts characterize the cityscape, as does its diverse culinary scene. The blend of traditional Chinese culture and urban dynamism makes the metropolis an attractive travel destination. Visitors from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland can enter China without a visa for stays of up to 30 days until December 31, 2026.
