Vienna Airport records successful growth in the first quarter

Vienna Airport reported a strong first quarter of 2025, with an eight percent increase in tonnage compared to the previous year. These positive trends continued in April, with cargo throughput increasing by 13 percent compared to April 2024.

Impressive increase in total tonnage

Vienna Airport recorded a significant increase in cargo activity in the first three months of 2025. Total tonnage increased by 5,222 to 73,280 tons, an eight percent increase compared to the same period last year. April was particularly noteworthy, with tonnage reaching 26,999 tons, an increase of 13 percent compared to April 2024.

Vienna Airport: Positive development in belly cargo

Belly cargo on passenger aircraft showed significant growth, offsetting slightly declining figures on all-cargo flights. Belly cargo registered 31,477 tons in the first quarter, representing a strong increase of 16 percent. In April, belly cargo even increased by 17 percent to 11,421 tons.

Pharmaceutical handling on growth path

Vienna Airport‘s specialized Pharma Handling Center also showed positive development in the first quarter. Handled tonnage increased by three percent to 913 tons. Vienna Airport is one of the few airports in Central and Eastern Europe to offer a specialized center to ensure professional transport with an unbroken cold chain.

Vienna Airport: Different developments in import and export

A comparison of imported and exported air freight in the first quarter reveals a differentiated picture. A total of 37,946 tons were imported into Austria via Vienna Airport, representing an increase of one percent. On the export side, 35,334 tons were transported to global markets, representing a remarkable increase of 16 percent compared to the first quarter of 2024.
