Munich Airport has announced that extensive renovation work will be carried out on the maintenance avenue in the southwestern area of Munich Airport in the coming months.
These measures are necessary to renew and improve the asphalt surface of the entire roadway. The construction work is divided into several phases and is expected to last until November. During this time, passengers, visitors, and airport employees should expect various restrictions and detours.
Section 1: Maintenance avenue under half-side closure
In the first section, which extends east of the roundabout on Wartungsallee and up to Südallee, half of Wartungsallee will be closed to westbound traffic. However, eastbound traffic will remain open. A signposted diversion for westbound vehicles will be directed via Südallee to “Knoten West 1” (south of the Novotel) and via Nordallee and Knoten West 0 to Wartungsallee. These measures are expected to result in temporary restrictions on entry and exit.
Users of parking lots P76 and P84 in particular should be prepared to leave the area north via Südallee to continue their journey. To minimize potential inconveniences, it is recommended to be aware of the changed traffic patterns in good time and plan alternative routes if necessary.
Next construction phase beginning of September
With the start of the next construction phase, which is expected to begin in early September, the maintenance lane east of the roundabout will be fully accessible again. However, from the roundabout, one-way traffic will be restricted to the west. Traffic will be diverted via a temporary lane north of the maintenance lane (from the roundabout heading west) and via one of the two lanes (from the turning circle back to the roundabout). Temporary restrictions on access roads may also occur here, which may require further planning for road users.
Munich Airport GmbH points out that unforeseeable weather conditions may affect construction times. Therefore, the relevant schedules are regularly reviewed and adjusted to ensure the smoothest possible execution of the work. Visitors are advised to regularly check the current status of the construction work to avoid unpleasant surprises and, if necessary, plan their travel accordingly.
Measures to maintain and improve infrastructural conditions
In summary, the renovation work on the maintenance lane represents an important measure to maintain and improve the infrastructure at Munich Airport. Munich Airport thanks all road users in advance for their understanding and patience during this undoubtedly necessary work. The safety and quality of traffic routes are of central importance for a modern airport, and this renovation work is another step in the right direction.
Airport users are asked to pay particular attention to construction vehicles and signage and to drive safely through the construction site areas. This is not only for their own safety, but also for the safety of construction workers and other road users. The better informed road users are, the smoother the construction site operations can be. Munich Airport is working to minimize disruption during the renovation phase and to complete all work promptly.
