Nuremberg Airport is celebrating its 70th anniversary with a big airport festival on Sunday, May 25, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the airport grounds. Marvel at the fascination of aviation up close at an exhibition of aircraft and apron vehicles. Those who want to take flight can do so with sightseeing flights in small aircraft. The extensive children’s program includes numerous activity areas and face painting. Around 50 exhibitors are participating in the festival. Tip: Arrive by public transport.
Aviation up close and air traffic up close
An extensive exhibition of aircraft, helicopters, and apron vehicles for exploration and admiration can be found in a special area right next to the tower. Special aircraft such as the German Armed Forces’ Eurofighter and a US Army Boeing AH-64 Apache helicopter are also on site.
Apron tours and sightseeing flights
Exciting bus tours of the apron are available throughout the day. Seats must be booked online; bookings can be made via the airport website. The Aero Club offers sightseeing flights in small aircraft. Registration is available directly at the information desk in front of the terminal.
Discovery area
The airport‘s environmental department provides insights into the biodiversity on the airport grounds, the energy concept with photovoltaic systems and noise protection in the “discovery area” opposite the tower.
Rescue workers and customs
A highlight at P7 for all ages: the airport fire department, police, the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), and the Red Cross will present their vehicles and equipment. Special mission on four paws: specially trained customs dogs will give live demonstrations.
Simulators
In the IVAO flight simulator, guests pilot a virtual aircraft under realistic flight conditions. The Aero Club provides another simulator. Furthermore, a rollover simulator from the ADAC realistically recreates an accident situation in a vehicle that can rotate 180 degrees.
Sports partner
Sports partners from the region will be there with interactive stands, including 1. FCN, SpVgg Greuther Fürth, HC Erlangen, the Nuremberg Rams and others.
Travel tips
Airlines and tour operators are also a must at an airport festival. Visitors can learn about the latest travel trends and current offers at the stands of KLM/Air France, Corendon, Marabu, Ryanair, Freebird Airlines, and others.
Children’s program and competition
Numerous activity areas await children, including face painting, a bouncy castle, a straw bale climbing castle, and a bicycle course. Also present are the Sensory Experience Center and the Tessloff Publishing House (“What is What”). A big competition at Nuremberg Airport offers fantastic prizes: you can enter at the information booth in front of the terminal.
Food and Drink
Such a packed schedule makes you hungry: There are numerous food trucks and drink stands. The terminal houses Marché Pizza and Pasta, Kalchreuther Bäcker, and McDonald’s. The alpine huts also offer beer gardens with seating. Starting at 2 p.m., Smash Burgers are available on the visitors’ terrace at the “Gate.”
Arrival at the airport festival
We recommend traveling by public transport via the subway, bus lines 30 and 33, or the VAG vintage car shuttle from the “Am Wegfeld” stop directly to the airport. Those arriving by car should park in parking garage P2. A special reduced rate of five euros is available there for the airport festival.
