No strikes at German airports: Tariff package for ground handling services

The Federal Collective Bargaining Commission for Ground Handling Services of the United Services Union (ver.di) has unanimously adopted a comprehensive collective bargaining package. This package is intended to extend the existing collective bargaining agreement to and trainees at German airports and introduce numerous financial improvements and benefits.

A serious wage dispute defused

The conflict between ver.di and the employers’ associations VKA and ABL was defused by the acceptance of the arbitration recommendation. The negotiations of the arbitration commission were crucial to the agreement. Ver.di negotiator Oliver Bandosz emphasizes that the arbitration not only led to a compromise, but also improved the overall conditions.

Increased fees and new benefits

The new collective bargaining package provides for wage increases in several steps until March 2027. A linear increase of 3.0 percent will take effect in April 2025, followed by further increases in 2026. Apprentices will also benefit from annual increases of €75. In addition, shift allowances will be introduced for the first time, and special payments will be granted for 2025 and 2026.

Long-term stability at airports ensured

With the approval of the Federal Collective Bargaining Commission, strikes in ground handling services are ruled out until March 2027. This agreement strengthens the industry and secure economic prospects. Approval still pending

The final implementation of the collective bargaining package is still subject to approval by the ver.di Federal Collective Bargaining Commission for the Public Sector.
