The previous designation “Hangar R” for the new home venue of the Häfler volleyball team has been retired. “BODENSEE–AIRPORT ARENA” is now the official name –one that will soon be visible on the exterior of the arena as well.

This was agreed upon by the airport’s Managing Director, Claus-Dieter Wehr, and VfB Managing Director Thilo Späth-Westerholt as part of a sponsorship agreement. “Just in time for the first home game at the new venue, the project now has a name,” says Claus-Dieter Wehr with delight. “I wish the volleyball team many successful matches in the BODENSEE-AIRPORT ARENA and am keeping my fingers crossed that the team’s next German Championship title will be celebrated right here,” added the airport’s Managing Director.

Over the past weeks and months, the officials at VfB Friedrichshafen have transformed a former aircraft hangar into a volleyball arena. Working with around 20 specialist firms and approximately 50 volunteers, they installed 2,000 square meters of flooring, as well as ventilation systems, heating, and spectator stands. “We are delighted to have found a new home at Bodensee Airport,” says VfB Managing Director Thilo Späth-Westerholt. “Claus-Dieter Wehr and his team have supported us as partners every step of the way. The fact that the airport is now also the naming sponsor for our volleyball arena is a wonderful thing for both sides.”

The Häfler will play their first home match at the BODENSEE-AIRPORT ARENA this coming Saturday (January 7, 8:00 PM). The WWK Volleys Herrsching will be their opponents for this inaugural match.
