The Spanish airline Iberia has received the world’s first example of the new Airbus A321XLR, starting a new era in aviation as a pioneer. With the aircraft, considered a significant advance in technology and comfort, Iberia plans to expand its network to include transoceanic flights.
Iberia introduces latest single-aisle aircraft
Iberia was the first airline to take delivery of the A321XLR, equipped with CFM LEAP-1A engines. This innovative aircraft will initially operate on regional flights across Europe before making its inaugural flight from Madrid to Boston in November. Marco Sansavini, CEO of Iberia, describes this event as a milestone for the airline.
New possibilities for aviation
Christian Scherer, CEO Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, says that after five years of development, the A321XLR is now ready to open a new chapter in flight. The aircraft offers the ability to reach countless new non-stop destinations, marking a significant advance in air connectivity. This delivery marks a significant step in Airbus’ ongoing innovation efforts.
Flight comfort and sustainability
The new A321XLR seats 182 passengers in a two-class layout, with lie-flat seats in business class. The Airspace cabin offers long-haul comfort and the XL containers allow 60% more luggage capacity. Passengers benefit from high connectivity at every seat and an optimized lighting system that helps improve the overall flight experience.
A step towards sustainable aviation
With the A321XLR, Airbus is introducing the next evolutionary stage of the A320neo series. The aircraft offers a range of up to 4,700 nautical miles and 30% lower fuel consumption per seat than older competing models. Airbus aims to fully equip its aircraft to run on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by 2030.
Iberia is a leading Spanish airline known for its extensive network and dedicated service. With the innovative A321XLR, it is further expanding its strategic position in air traffic. The focus is on sustainable growth and modern customer comfort.
