In 2024, 41.6 million passengers used Munich Airport, an increase of four and a half million compared to the previous year. This made the hub the fastest growing airport in Germany. With a seat occupancy rate of around 82 percent, the previous year’s record result was even exceeded. This increase highlights the ongoing demand for international and intra-European air travel.
Munich Airport records an increase in flight movements
The number of aircraft movements increased by eight percent and exceeded 327,000 takeoffs and landings. The main contributor to this increase was the dynamic growth in European and intercontinental traffic. Flights within Europe and to Mediterranean countries experienced an increase of 12 percent, while long-haul traffic increased by 17 percent. This confirms the popularity and importance of Munich Airport among travelers and airlines.
Expansion of the route network
Last year, Munich Airport expanded its already outstanding route network and now offers flights to 224 destinations in 66 countries. A total of 96 airlines land regularly, including five cargo-only airlines. This expansion of the route network demonstrates the importance of Munich as an important international hub and speaks for the stability and size of international travel and freight traffic.
Positive development in the freight sector
The cargo area at Munich Airport also developed positively in 2024. Air freight volumes rose by eleven percent to over 308,000 tons.
