
At an event in Frankfurt am Main, the acd discussed the calculation models for traffic emissions and their effects on various modes of transport. The participants called for a fact-based discussion and a realistic view of air freight emissions in order to strengthen Germany as a business location.
Discussion about aviation emissions
At the most recent acd event in Frankfurt am Main, there was intensive discussion about the calculation of traffic emissions. There were complaints that aviation, especially air freight, was often portrayed in a bad light. The acd sees air freight as essential for Germany as a business location and demands that environmental debates be conducted in a fact-based and unbiased manner. Dr. Klaus Radermacher emphasized that the current models ignore important factors and that a systematic and complete recording of emissions is required.
Underestimated infrastructure costs
Dr. Klaus Radermacher highlighted that CO₂ emissions are often ignored when building and maintaining road and rail infrastructure. These are almost completely eliminated in air traffic and shipping, as no additional infrastructure is required. A holistic view of all components of a transport system is necessary in order to correctly map the actual effects.
For more fairness in the evaluation
Prof. Dr. Christopher W. Stoller, president of the acd, called for a realistic and fair assessment of the air freight industry. He emphasized that the new federal government should recognize the important role of air freight for the German economy. It’s not about favoring the industry, but about an objective assessment of its advantages. A de-ideologization of the discussions is urgently needed.
Round table proposed for transport associations
The acd suggested organizing a round table with leading transport associations to discuss the important issues in mobility policy at eye level. An objective discussion about the future role of the various modes of transport is of great importance in order to ensure sustainable development and fair competitive conditions.
