The Hungarian Air Force has received a significant advance in its equipment after Embraer delivered the second C-390 Millennium multi-role aircraft. This delivery comes as part of a comprehensive contract between Hungary and Embraer, a renowned manufacturer of defense and security aircraft.
The ceremony took place at the Kecskemét Air Base, in the presence of Hungarian Defense Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky and high-ranking representatives from both sides. The arrival of these modern aircraft marks a milestone for the Hungarian Air Force. Since it was put into service at the end of 2024, the first machine has achieved an impressive operational performance of over 99%. Hungary is therefore the first operator to receive all of the C-390 Millennium aircraft it has ordered.
Importance of the C-390 Millennium for the Hungarian Air Force
The introduction of the C-390 Millennium aircraft brings a significant expansion of operational capabilities for the Hungarian Air Force. Up to this point, the Hungarian Air Force did not have the transport capacity required for a wide range of military and humanitarian missions. These aircraft can handle a wide range of missions, including medical evacuations, humanitarian assistance, search and rescue operations, and the transport of cargo and troops. Of particular note is that the C-390 is designed for precise paratrooper drop-offs and jumps and also has the capability of aerial refueling.

Technological innovations and advantages of the C-390
The C-390 Millennium represents a state-of-the-art platform that impresses with both powerful technology and innovative modules. In particular, the roll-on/roll-off intensive care module is unique in the world and makes the Hungarian C-390s the first aircraft that can carry a mobile intensive care unit on board. This equipment is crucial for rapid medical assistance during missions at home and abroad and underlines the versatility of the aircraft.
The machine is characterized by outstanding performance, which manifests itself in a combination of reliability, efficiency and flexibility. The lifecycle costs of these aircraft are reduced compared to other transport aircraft, highlighting their long-term economic viability and sustainability. Designed to operate in a variety of climatic and geographical conditions, the C-390s meet the requirements of modern aviation technology and military operations.
Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, emphasized the importance of the milestone for the company and the close partnership with the Hungarian Air Force. The collaboration aims to continuously support and expand the operational needs of the Hungarian Armed Forces, opening new avenues for future innovation in the aviation sector.
Impact on regional security and civilian use
The delivery of the C-390 has far-reaching implications not only for military but also for civilian tasks. With a wide variety of missions ranging from medical evacuation to humanitarian assistance, these aircraft strengthen both national and regional crisis response capabilities. The combination of military performance and civilian operational options makes the C-390 a strategic asset in disaster management and international relief operations.
The intensive care unit on board enables quick and safe patient care, which can be life-saving in medical emergencies. This development demonstrates the growing importance of modern aircraft technology in addressing complex challenges in today’s world. Hungary is thus positioning itself as an active and responsible partner in international security and aid structures.
In addition, the improved troop and material transport capacity helps strengthen NATO operations and increases the ability to participate in joint exercises and operations. The flexibility of the C-390 also enables adaptation to different mission profiles, which increases the effectiveness of the Hungarian Air Force in the context of multinational cooperation.
Partnership between Embraer and the Hungarian defense industry
The delivery of the second C-390 Millennium to the Hungarian Air Force marks a historic moment in the country’s defense history. It symbolizes enormous progress in terms of military equipment, technological innovation and strategic capabilities. With this expanded fleet, Hungary is able to carry out complex military and humanitarian missions efficiently and reliably. Modern technology, especially the modular intensive care unit, sets new standards in the field of aviation and crisis management.
This development offers significant operational advantages and underlines the close partnership between Embraer and the Hungarian defense industry. The positive impact on national security as well as regional and international cooperation in various operational areas is promising. Therefore, the introduction of these aircraft represents not only an expansion of the fleet, but also a step towards a safer and better prepared future.
This achievement highlights the continued importance of innovation in the defense sector and demonstrates the role of modern aviation technologies in strengthening a nation’s defense capability and supporting civilian needs.
