Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) experienced its busiest month of travel so far in 2024. In August, a total of 2.39 million passengers used BER, an increase of 7.7 percent compared to the previous year.

Increase in passenger volume

August 2024, with the summer holidays in and , was the busiest month of the year so far. A total of 2.39 million used (BER). Compared to August 2023, which recorded approximately 2.22 million , this represents an increase of 7.7 percent. In the pre-coronavirus year of 2019, passenger traffic at Tegel and Airports was approximately 3.18 million.

Movement of aircraft

A total of 16,520 aircraft took off and landed at BER last August, representing an increase of 2.8 percent compared to the same month last year. By comparison, around 25,000 were recorded at Tegel and Airports in August 2019. This demonstrates a significant recovery in traffic, although the numbers have not yet reached pre-coronavirus levels.

Freight volume at BER

In August 2024, a total of 4,067 tons of were handled at BER. This represents an increase of 33.8 percent compared to August 2023. In the pre-coronavirus year of 2019, 3,092 tons of cargo were handled, meaning that 31.5 percent more cargo was handled last August. These figures underscore the growing importance of BER as a key freight hub.

Annual balance and busiest day

From January to August 2024, a total of 16.58 million were welcomed at BER, an increase of 11.1 percent compared to the same period last year (14.92 million). The busiest day of the year was August 30, the last Friday of the summer holidays, when 85,778 passengers used the .
