Arrival of the aircraft at Frankfurt Airport

To mark Lufthansa’s 100th anniversary, another specially painted aircraft is expected in Frankfurt: An Airbus A321-200, painted in Norwich, England, in the livery of the legendary Lockheed Super Star, will fly from there to Germany’s largest airport under flight number LH9898. The short- and medium-haul aircraft, registration D-AISZ, is expected to arrive in Frankfurt at approximately 2:45 p.m.

The Airbus A321 now sports Lufthansa’s historic parabolic design. Introduced in the mid-1950s, it was inspired by the streamlining trend of the 1930s and was intended to symbolize dynamism, speed, and a forward-looking approach. The parabolic line appeared not only on the aircraft’s tail fins but also on baggage tags, business documents, flight schedules, and even cigar bands.

Iconic appearance of a legendary Super Star on an Airbus A321

Nearly 70 years after its maiden flight for Lufthansa, this iconic parabolic design is back in the skies. The Super Star joined the Lufthansa fleet in 1957. Its unique feature: this aircraft was the first to offer Senator Class, the most exclusive form of travel. Its primary service was the nonstop transatlantic route to New York. A restored Lockheed L-1649A Super Star will soon be on display alongside a Junkers Ju 52 in the new Lufthansa Group Hangar One. The conference and visitor center at Frankfurt Airport opens in April.

Blue Airbus A350-900 at the Munich hub

Lufthansa’s centenary fleet, featuring an oversized crane logo to commemorate its founding anniversary, has also grown: A blue Airbus A350-900, registration D-AIXL, landed in Munich yesterday, Monday. It had previously been freshly painted in Châteauroux, France. This is already the third aircraft in this exceptional design: A Boeing 787-9 and an Airbus A320neo, both based in Frankfurt, are already flying in the 100-year livery. At least one more Airbus A380, one Boeing 747-8, and one Airbus A350-1000 will follow in the coming weeks.
