The Spanish Air Force’s first Airbus A330 MRTT has entered service with the 45th Squadron. It is one of three multi-role tanker and transport aircraft acquired by the Spanish Ministry of Defense in November 2021. The aircraft will operate from the Torrejón de Ardoz Air Base in Madrid.

Current progress and future plans

The second and third A330 MRTTs for Spain are currently undergoing conversion at Getafe, , to integrate the aircraft’s full range of functions. For example, in 2024, they participated in the Pacific Skies exercise and were used to evacuate Spanish nationals from Niger and Sudan.
