Until now, FANS was operable on this aircraft type only via Iridium satcom. “Instead of retrofitting a completely new satcom system, customers now have a very cost-effective solution by utilizing their existing Rockwell Collins SAT-906 systems,” says Marek-Sebastian Rinke, Lead Engineer at Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services.

Engineers from Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services collaborated with ASM – a Texas-based leading provider of avionics system integration –which provided the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) on behalf of Rockwell Collins. Since December 2017, FANS has been mandatory for Flight Levels 350 through 390 throughout the entire ICAO North Atlantic (NAT) Region.
