Innovative partnership between culture and aviation

Both institutions announce that the Spanish Riding School has been chosen as the namesake for the long-haul aircraft with the registration OE-LPL. The institution, known for its fascinating Lipizzaner horse performances, has existed since 1565 and remains a symbol of tradition and equestrian art. The cooperation aims to enhance Austria’s historical and cultural heritage by having the name “Spanish Riding School” travel the world on board Austrian Airlines.

Historical Lipizzaners as ambassadors

Part of the cooperation is Austrian Airlines’ sponsorship of one of its Lipizzaner stallions, Favory Wera. Under the experienced care of Christian Bachinger, the stallion will be presented at demonstrations. This combination of aviation and equestrian art emphasizes the high quality and precision of both brands, both on the ground and in the air.

International reach

The Spanish Riding School attracts over 360,000 visitors annually, 87% of whom come from abroad. Americans, in particular, represent a significant group, accounting for 16% of visitors. Austrian Airlines, which connects Vienna directly with six major airports in the USA, enables international spectators to experience the unique equestrian art and promotes the global presence of Austrian culture.

Meaning of the name concept

Austrian Airlines’ Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flies around the world with the naming concept “Highlights of Vienna.” In addition to the “Spanish Riding School,” another Dreamliner already bears the name “Schönbrunn Palace.” This naming underscores the interplay between Austrian tourism and historical sights and showcases them worldwide.

Austrian Airlines connects more than 120 destinations worldwide and is known for its contributions to promoting tourism and Austrian culture. The airline is actively committed to making Austria’s historical and cultural riches accessible to international guests.
