AEGEAN Airlines extends Munich – Heraklion flight connection to the winter season
Starting in November, AEGEAN Airlines will offer travelers from southern Germany an attractive opportunity to visit Crete even during the cold season: The popular seasonal flight connection from Munich to Heraklion will be extended beyond the traditional summer season and will thus be available during the winter season with up to six weekly direct flights on the modern Airbus A320.
Fast non-stop connection in just two hours and 40 minutes
The flight time between Munich and Heraklion on the new winter flights is only around two hours and 40 minutes. Thanks to this attractive offer, approximately 12,200 seats are available to passengers during the winter season. Six flights per week will be offered in November; afterward, AEGEAN will flexibly adjust the frequency to seasonal demand. The connection will run until the beginning of January, take a short break, and resume in February. Flights will also be available in March. Regular summer season flights to Crete will then begin at the end of March 2026.
Tickets from 75 euros per route
Bookings for the new winter flights are now available – at a reasonable price of approximately €75 per route, including taxes and fees. Tickets are available directly through the AEGEAN booking system and on the official website, allowing for easy planning.
Crete as a worthwhile year-round destination – mild temperatures and authentic culture even in winter
Detlev Geiser, Regional Sales Manager Western Europe at AEGEAN Airlines, emphasizes: “Crete is one of the most popular Greek destinations and offers a rich and unique travel experience in both summer and winter.”
In the cooler months, visitors enjoy mild temperatures, quiet beaches, and charming villages far from the tourist crowds. Cultural attractions such as historical monuments and traditional cuisine can be explored in a relaxed atmosphere without the crowds of large groups. Crete is therefore considered an insider tip, especially for budget-conscious travelers, outside of the peak season.
Furthermore, the island is characterized by its centuries-old hospitality, known as “Philoxenia” – a living tradition that warmly welcomes guests.
Heraklion: Mediterranean charm despite the winter months with over 300 days of sunshine annually
The mild Mediterranean winter makes Crete particularly attractive: with more than 300 hours of sunshine a year, travelers can expect a pleasant climate for relaxation and discovery.
Heraklion captivates with its lively markets offering fresh regional produce, traditional taverns serving authentic cuisine, and the Venetian Old Town as its cultural centerpiece. Historical highlights such as the Palace of Knossos also invite fascinating excursions.
Comprehensive Greece offer from AEGEAN Airlines from the German-speaking region
By 2025, AEGEAN Airlines plans to offer a total of approximately 2.9 million seats from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland – spread across a total of 42 direct connections (scheduled and charter flights) from approximately 20 cities to Greece. In addition to Heraklion, key destinations include Athens, Thessaloniki, Rhodes, and Kalamata. From Munich, AEGEAN serves many of these destinations with reliable year-round connections.
This wide route network not only allows customers flexible holiday planning but also offers opportunities for business trips or family visits within Europe.
Conclusion: Year-round travel options to Crete through extended winter flight connection
With this expanded flight offering, AEGEAN Airlines is setting new standards for access to the popular holiday island of Crete. The mild Mediterranean climate during the off-season, combined with diverse cultural highlights and warm hospitality, is particularly attractive.
Travelers benefit from fast, direct connections at attractive prices – ideal for anyone who wants to explore Greece’s largest island outside of their traditional summer vacation. Early bookings also ensure particularly favorable conditions.
